The EMC VMAX 20K is a small but powerful building block for your storage platform. Just one VMAX 20K engine can provide an entire foundation for a high-availability system with two directors and redundant interfaces. Each director optimizes your I/O operations by facilitating direct memory access to data through consolidation of front-end, back-end, and global memory functions. A set of multiple active fabrics connect VMAX 20K engines for high availability and scalable performance, but the engines can be geographically dispersed across your data center without loss of management or speed.

Each VMAX 20K engine contains four Quad-core 2.33 GHz processors. Build your storage system using potentially eight VMAX 20K engines with up to 128 front-end ports. Data protection encoding and optimized hardware logic provide end-to-end data integrity, while automated channel failover delivers load balancing and maximum availability. Tiered storage optimizes system performance while minimizing costs. VMAX 20K systems work with all popular operating system platforms and hardware, high-availability cluster environments, and storage area networks (SANs).

VMAX 20K comes preconfigured with core software for a simple installation and setup, including intelligent caching software VFCache with PCIe Flash technology for improved application performance. When coupled with EMC’s array-based FAST software, this software collection creates a highly efficient and intelligent I/O path from applications to the data store. This creates a networked infrastructure that’s dynamically optimized for protection, performance, and intelligence for your virtual and physical environments.
