Configuring VNX Data Mover (Simulator)

Ok, so in Part 1, we saw how to deploy and configure the VNX appliance, in Part 2, how to configure the Control Station, now let’s see how to configure the Data Mover :

Note : One more time I’m not a VNX specialist so there’s other way to configure it (without wizard) but the goad is to quickly build a working environement.

Ok let’s continue with the « Setup Wizard for File » :

Click « Next » :

I have only one Data Mover otherwise set server_3 as Standby and click « Next »

Click « Next » to validate Data Mover Role :

Click « Next » :

Click « Next » to enable Unicode for your server(s) :

Enter your NTP servers :

Note : it’s really important that your VNX is correctly configured with NTP server as Kerberos authentication will failed if time difference is too high between your VNX and your Domain Controller and so you’ll not be able to join the domain.

Click « Submit »

Everything must be « Greeeeeeennnnnn »

Let’s go configuring Data Mover Network Services by selecting « Yes » and click « Next » :

Select « Next » :

Enter DNS domain name and DNS servers’ IPs :

« Submit » the configuration :

Click « Next »:

Click « Next »:

Enter NIS domain Name and NIS Servers’ IP if ever you have some :

Click « Submit » to validate the configuration :

Click « Next »:

Select « No » and Click « Next » to close Network services configuration and move to next step and configure Network Interface:

Click « Next »:

Click « Next »:

Select « Create Device »:

Select « Next »:

Select »Network Device Type », personally I choose « Fail-Safe Network » as it’s the one in my opinion who give the best chance to have no issue with networking devices:

Set cge0 and cge1 as either Primary or Standby devices :

One more time, « Submit » it to validate and enable your configuration :

Verify that’s every steps are successful and click « Next » :

Click « Next »

Enter the IP address for the VNX interface (this interface will be used for the CIFS server for users connection) :

Enter MTU if needed (by default : 1500)

Enter VLAN ID if needed :

Again « Submit » to validate and enable this configuration :

Click « Next » or review configuration if you see errors :

Click « Next »

Click Next to begin configuring « File System »:

Now that the Data Mover is configured, the next steps consist of configuring VNX File System and CIFS shares.
